Welcome to my little part of Virginia. I'm was born a city girl, but I'm developing such a soft spot for the countryside. How can you look at scenes like the one above and not be smitten? There's just something about a field dotted with hay bales that makes my heart sing.

I love to find them in clusters too!

And you guys already know that I have a fondness for barns. Just look at all those white windows!

These wild raspberries are growing all over the borders of our property. We've started harvesting them, and boy are they yummy. They usually last until the week of July 4th or so. I freeze them to use throughout the year. This year I'll try making some raspberry sorbet.

This guy came for a visit - he wanted some raspberries too.

I'm so sorry this photo didn't turn out more clear. I was driving when I spotted this doe and baby far in the distance. It was a hazy, humid day, and I zoomed in as much as I could - can you see the baby drinking it's mother's milk?

I found this growing on the side of the road. Don't know what it is, but it's lovely... in a prickly sort of way.

These wild lilies are blooming in huge masses all over the place right now. Aren't they stunning! I think I might dig a clump up and put them in my yard.

Another shot taken while I was out driving. I couldn't resist the way the sunlight was playing through the trees.

I took this one last night. It was shortly before dusk. I love the way the setting sun made the clouds glow in 3 distinct colors - reminds me of cotton candy.

Just a few minutes later I was able to capture this wonderful shot. I just love it when the sun beams break through the clouds. I can't tell you how many times I've seen something really beautiful and said, "oh darn, I wish I had my camera", and this time I actually did!!! :)
Well, thanks for visiting my little part of Virginia - hope you liked it!
Be sure to visit
here for more Outdoor Wednesday posts.
Wowoweee! The country barn has a lot of windows! I love the flora and fauna! Beautifu captures of the skies!First time to see rounded bales, don't they usually look like squares? Very nice post, and I enjoyed it (being a city girl) Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteOh How could you not be in love with that? I love all the wildflowers and berries. Your sunset is giving mysunrise a run for the money. The barn! Oh the barn! Love it! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletelove the wild raspberries, of course ;)

What beautiful photos! How could you not fall in love with a place like that?
ReplyDeleteYour photos are just wonderful, and the one that is a doe and baby, I like it just the way it is, kinda whispy. That prickly flower is called trouble in our neck of the woods. It is a thistle and my husband, farmer that he is, takes days to go around all our fields to hand spray those because they will take over if you don't spray. They are like a spreading disease here.... But the flowers are pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your lovely part of Virginia. I loved all the pictures especially the sky at night. As for your comment about the doomed dome home. It certainly did SMELL...musty and moldy! Yikes.
ReplyDeleteOh those raspberries look delicious!I love the photo of the trees,so beautiful! Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteHi Ebie - I think the main difference between round and square hay bales is the size. The round ones are HUGE. Probably 10 times the size. Other than that, I don't know why some use round while others use square.
ReplyDeleteI love to drive through beautiful East Texas and see those bales of hay laying out in the fields. From the road, they almost look like big loafs of fresh backed bread. Ok, I know that sounds silly, but they just do to me*!
ReplyDelete(((smile))) Love seeing the deer in your post too. They are just too cute*! _Ashley*
Oh I do love your part of Virginia! Love the fields and the red barn! Beautiful skies...
ReplyDeleteOh, I love Virginia, your photographs are gorgeous. The countryside does look familiar to Vermont, and I love the deer. LIving near the countryside is so wonderful, and your beautiful photographs are too.
ReplyDeleteKaren
Love everything in Virginia.... especially our kids and little ones!:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post...wild raspberries, double delicious yum! The cute deer must think so too! The woods make me want to stay forever and ponder on the beauties of the world.
Happy OW! ~♥
Happy Outdoor Wednesday ButterYum,
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL...GORGEOUS...PEACE...SERENE...The barn which is prettier than my granddads ever was, reminded me however of granddads alfalfa barn...my sister and cousins and I would climb those bales, when it was so stifling hot and the sweetness of the alfalfa made me gag and finally I pulled my shirt up over my nose and when we made it to the top and the loft door was open and you could see for miles I finally knew, really knew what fresh air meant and how important it was.
Thank you for taking us a long on your photograph excursion....it was soooooo much fun and I have never been to that part of the country.
I love your blog so much
hugs
I love your profile picture of your cake...it is so very beautiful

Your pictures are just wonderful, the barn reminded me of the one my grandfather used to have on this farm. Oh what great memories, baling hay with my grandfather.
ReplyDeleteYour sunset is absolutely beautiful.
Thanks for stopping for a visit and leaving your nice comment. It is always nice to meet new friends.
Thanks for sharing your part of Virginia!

Hello Mother of 4,
ReplyDeleteI see you have become a country mouse and are enjoying it! It is good you are adaptable. I have moved a lot and also “Bloom Where I Am Planted” The barn photo with the windows is striking and your wild berry patch is a nice little bonus. Many moves ago I lived in Oregon and made freezer jam every summer from the abundant supply of U-pick farms. I have enjoyed your Outdoor Wednesday, but now want to get down to serious business and search out your foodie posts!!!! Cathy
Beeeeautiful pics. Such a pretty area of the country. Thanks for sharing.

Oh Butter Yum,
ReplyDeleteI had so much fun looking at the beautiful pics of your little piece of heaven. Thank you so much for sharing with me. I loved the berries (so homey) and I absolutely loved the trees that had the sun dancing through them. It was so magical. You have a special gift with photography. I look forward to many more postings in the future. Thank you for stopping by Country Wings in Phoenix, "Country Hugs", Sherry
Your little part of Va is wonderful as are your pics! We have deer all over the place, too many in fact, and the only thing I have ever seen them eat are my roses and lilies, and vegetables. The deer nursing is amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous country! Know wonder you are in love with it. Your pictures are beautiful, love the fawn and doe. And the sky shots are really spectacular. But that barn, oh that barn - love it, love it, love it! Kathy
ReplyDeletethe hay bales are great, ours in calif. are just plain rectangles.
ReplyDeleteI loved ALL your photos but the one of the prickly plant and the trees were so beautiful. I have never seen a barn with windows like that either! Happy OW!
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful photos. I love looking at a field of hay bales. I also love the photos of the day lilies they are so beautiful. I don't think that I can find a favorite photo in this group!
ReplyDeleteHave a great Wednesday!
Beautiful country. I love all the images.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Lovely post.
Lovely, I feel like I was on a country drive tour. Thanks for sharing, I love the country, even though I live in a development now. Happy OW,
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photo's. I love hay bales too. It brings me back to a simpler time. I think the flower you are wondering about is some type of thistle. It will see everywhere and create quite a mess as they are thorny. However, they are quite pretty and the finches love them.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pleasure to stop by your blog. I agree with you, the hay bales have something special and for me the red barns too. Thank you for stopping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteOh my! Beautiful pictures. I especially love the one with all the trees!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping my my blog yesterday, I love new visitors.
Blessings
Robin

ReplyDeleteLovely photos! There is something so peaceful about all of those scenes.

All of your photos are just beautiful!! Love the sweet doe and her baby, the barn is terrific and I would love to have some of those wild raspberries! I wonder what determines whether a farmer bales his hay in rolls or square bales. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteHappy Outdoor Wednesday,
Robin@Miscellaneous Thoughts

ReplyDeleteWhen you get a chance, stop by my blog and pick up your award. :-)
You stinker...
ReplyDelete:)
Beautiful country
ReplyDeleteJust stumbled across your blog and love all the pictures. Beautiful work!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! Love raspberries. How nice that you have them so accessible! The lily is a daylily. Hemerocallis fulva to be exact, but commonly called a "ditch lily" around here, as they grow in the ditches along the road. :) The prickly flower is a thistle. The farmers around here spray them so they won't spread. It may actually be a law...though I'm not sure.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to get outdoors and enjoy the scenery. Thanks for sharing your beautiful photos. ~~Rhonda
Hi! I just saw your post on Marmielu's Nest and decided to pay you a visit. I really like your blog (I love reading about food!!). The Virginia Countryside photos are beautiful. And your bedroom furniture is amazing - they look quite heavy!
ReplyDelete:)
Your post brought such wonderful memories for me today! I used to live on a cul-de-sac in Studio City, California. There were only three homes and it was at the base of the mountains. Now just below is the BIG CITY and Ventura Blvd, lots of traffic. At the curve there were wild raspberries and in the evenings the deer would come down for their share. Who would have ever thought I would see something so wonderful in the city? Thanks for helping me remember that today!
